David O. Bullock
David O. Bullock, who has his M.Div in Pastoral Counseling from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, has been a beloved pastor for 34 years in five churches. He lived his elementary and high school years with the nickname Chicken, but it wasn’t because he was afraid of anyone or anything. David grew up the son of a chicken farmer in rural Pulaski County, Kentucky. His childhood and teenage years were spent helping in the family business, Bullock Egg Farm—feeding, gathering, and packaging eggs from 10,000 chickens. So his expertise on chickens grew out of life experience. However, his favorite bird has always been the eagle. His study of and love for eagles has not only led to a good understanding of this magnificent bird but also to the name of his current church, for which he is the founding pastor.
“When you’ve been called Chicken all of your pre-adult life, you just want to help people escape that,” David says with his trademark honesty, humility, and humor. “Being referred to as a Chicken is never a good thing, and that’s why I wrote Born to Fly. My relentless passion is to help as many people as possible learn to soar like the eagles they are created to be.”
In 2009, David led the church to begin the Oasis Care Center, a recovery center for those who battle addiction or other life-controlling issues. A residential center for women is helping many ladies escape the chicken pen of addiction and become beautiful eagles. A residential center for men will be added in the future. If you or someone you know could use a place that provides healing for the wounded, strength for the weak, and hope for the future, it can be found at the Oasis Care Center: www.oasiscarecenter.org.
Eagle Heights Church also has a thriving Celebrate Recovery ministry for people with hurts, hang-ups, and habits. There, eagles are discovering their wings every week. David's ministry has always been about helping people see how much God loves them and how He can help them rise up and begin to soar from wherever life has taken them. In the pages of Born To Fly he invites you to come and soar with him too!
David and his wife, Glenda, live in Kentucky. They have two daughters and five grandchildren and delight in seeing God work miracles every day in so many ways.
